Copper cladding on steel casement windows

Postby Jerry » August 29th, 2011, 5:09 pm

We are restoring c. 1938 windows with have a 7 ounce copper cover over the sashes only (no copper on the steel frames at all). The covers are 1-5/8" wide to cover the entire sash styles and rails. They are convex to have an air space at the midpoint of approx. 1/32". We believe they were installed at the factory and that they have always been painted.

We are hoping to find the product pre-made, but according to Blaine Hardware none exist. Unless someone out there know of the original manufacturer, we will have a local craftsman bend new copper to create the cover.

In addition to finding the manufacturer, we would also like to know why the manufacturer thought this was a good idea in the first place.

Your help will be appreciated.
